Closing down Whiteboards.io, Whiteboards for Jira, and Whiteboards for Confluence — what you need to know

We’ve made the decision to discontinue Whiteboards.io, Whiteboards for Jira, and Whiteboards for Confluence on July 31, 2024.

Until July 31, 2024, the products will remain accessible, so you can continue using your existing license, and our team will continue to provide support for customers who choose to use our apps during this period. We recommend that you start transferring your boards and data to another whiteboarding solution for continuous and seamless collaboration with your team.

Closing down Whiteboards: What you need to know

  1. Why is Appfire sunsetting Whiteboards?

We made the decision to discontinue Whiteboards.io, Whiteboards for Jira, and Whiteboards for Confluence as part of our ongoing product lifecycle management process and the availability of alternative solutions with similar features in the market.

  1. What does this mean for me as a customer?

Until July 31, 2024, you can still use our products and enjoy all features apart from video calls. After that date, we’ll no longer continue to provide support, updates, or maintenance for Whiteboards.io, Whiteboards for Jira, and Whiteboards for Confluence, and the products won’t be available for purchase or use.

  1. When will the apps be officially retired?

You can use Whiteboards.io, Whiteboards for Jira, and Whiteboards for Confluence until July 31, 2024. After this date, the products will no longer be available for purchase, use, or support.

  1. Will I still be able to use the Whiteboards license I purchased?

You’ll be able to use your licenses for Whiteboards.io, Whiteboards for Jira, and Whiteboards for Confluence until July 31, 2024. After that date, the products will be closed down and won’t be available for purchase, use, or support.

  1. Is there another similar app within Appfire or on Atlassian’s marketplace?

You’ll find many different whiteboarding options available in the marketplace. We recommend exploring different apps to find one that best suits your needs. You might try using recommendation portals like G2 or Capterra.

To safeguard your board content, export your boards before switching apps. Please refer to Question 6 below for guidance on how to do this.

Please note: Exporting your board content to PDF, .csv, or .json files might not allow for a seamless import into your new whiteboarding service. It’s possible you’ll need to manually recreate entire boards or certain board elements from scratch.

  1. How can I export content from the boards?

If you have data stored in Whiteboards.io, Whiteboards for Jira, and Whiteboards for Confluence, make sure you export and back up your data before July 31, 2024. You can export your boards in several ways:

  • Export each board to a PDF file to get a visual representation of the board content. You can repurpose the file as an additional resource to your online or offline presentation or easily share it with external collaborators. These files are also print-ready, should the need arise.
  • Bulk exporting the boards to .json files will keep the whole board structure. Remember that .json files may not seamlessly translate to other whiteboarding tools, and some development effort on your part may be required.
  • You may export multiple boards to .csv files, which contain texts or links that can be copied from the board (for example, text fields, sticky notes, links to Jira/GitHub issues). This format doesn’t keep the colors/shapes/positions of these elements, so you’ll want to use a PDF for guidance when manually recreating the board.
  • You can include all media uploaded to your boards in your export (images, videos, documents, and other uploaded files).

This Help Center article has details on all the export options.

Note: It might not be possible to import the PDF, .csv, or .json files directly into other whiteboarding tools. You might need to recreate entire boards or certain board elements from scratch within your new service. We encourage you to look for Whiteboards alternatives as soon as possible to find the best option for importing your exported files seamlessly.

  1. Can I still add people to my organization?

Yes, you will still be able to add new users to already existing organizations, however, you won’t be able to create new organizations. Refer to this article to learn how to invite your teammates to your boards.

Please note that new users can only create their accounts in two ways:

  1. From an invite from an existing organization user.
  2. Through an identity provider, when the organization allows new users to join from the same email address domain.

Creating an account in Whiteboards independently will not be possible.

  1. Can I still create new boards?

Yes, you can create new digital whiteboards until July 31, 2024. Remember, though, to export your content before that date. After that date, Whiteboards.io, Whiteboards for Jira, and Whiteboards for Confluence will no longer be available for purchase, use, or support.

  1. How do I remove my data from Whiteboards?

To remove the users from your organization, please refer to this Help Center article. For information on how to delete an organization, please click here.

All your data within Whiteboards.io, Whiteboards for Jira, and Whiteboards for Confluence will be permanently deleted after July 31, 2024, with no possibility of recovery because the products will be closed down.

  1. Can data be migrated from the Whiteboards products to alternative apps?

You can export your content using our existing features — individually exporting boards to PDF files or exporting multiple boards to .json or .csv files (with or without the multimedia uploaded to the boards).

Then, use these files to manually recreate your boards in other whiteboarding solutions.

We highly recommend starting your search now for other apps that could work for you.

  1. Will Appfire continue to support Whiteboards customers?

We will provide support to all of our customers with active Whiteboards licenses until July 31, 2024. After that date, we can no longer provide support and maintenance for Whiteboards.io, Whiteboards for Jira, and Whiteboards for Confluence.

  1. Who can I contact with questions or for more guidance?

If you have any questions or need help before July 31, 2024, please reach out to our support team.
