What is the Retrospective template?

Meet regularly with your team to check in and reflect on the past sprint to improve the future one. Identify how you can enhance teamwork by taking a look at what worked, what did not, and why. Run retrospective sessions with your team every couple of weeks or at the end of your project milestone.


Choosing a time period for your retro discussion will ensure your conversation stays on track. Listen to your colleagues with an open mind and focus on improvements and making adjustments to processes rather than placing the blame for failures. Debate what you did well, what you could do better, and what actions should be taken to achieve your goals.

How to use the Retrospective template in a few steps?

  1. Open the Retrospective template on a new board or add it to an already existing one.
  2. Invite your team to the board by sending an email invitation or sharing the board URL.
  3. Enable the audio and video chat on the board and explain the purpose of this exercise to your team members. Decide together whether it should be a sprint retrospective, feedback session, or project development review.
  4. Start the retrospective by setting up the timer for the first part of the exercise. Let everyone write down the insights, comments, or feedback on sticky notes by answering questions like what went well and what needs improvement. Make sure this part of the session doesn’t last more than 10 minutes.
  5. Invite everyone to an open discussion after the time is up. Go through all sticky notes added to the two first columns on the ready-made template. Talk about achievements and challenges from the previous sprint, project, or other agreed-upon period of time. 
  6. Add sticky notes with action points to which you will get back during the next Agile sprint retrospective. Connect sticky notes with lines to know which next steps derive from which feedback.
Use this template
